Uptown Physicians Group (UPG) and Prism Health North Texas (PHNTX) are proud to welcome two new staff members to the clinic, Dr. Taylor Schmidt M.D. and Nurse Practitioner Kristina Schmidt.

Family Nurse Practitioner Kristina Schmidt joined UPG’s staff this year. Board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Kristina obtained bachelor’s degrees in nutritional sciences and nursing, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing, all from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She has previously worked as a family nurse practitioner for Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas, where she provided inpatient and outpatient infectious disease care for people living with HIV. Prior to working as a family nurse practitioner, she worked for over five years as a registered nurse at multiple Emergency Departments including University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas and at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

“I am excited to join this prestigious practice and look forward to developing in this new role,” Schmidt said. “Due to the success of this practice, patients may struggle to find available appointments for last minute needs, which is where I offer support. My goal is for our patients to be confident in knowing they have a qualified, experienced provider they can see for urgent matters.”

An Oklahoma native, Dr. Schmidt attended and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical School. He completed the HIV Medicine Fellowship at UTSW in 2021. He began work at UPG in August of 2021, and helps treat patients living with HIV as well as patients who are on pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV. Dr. Schmidt is delighted to begin his career at UPG and hopes to contribute to the expansion of services to the community who are seeking care.

“I am truly excited to work at Uptown Physicians Group and Prism Health North Texas,” Dr. Schmidt said. “It is an honor to be a part of such a historic and respected institution. I know that we can build from the great tradition of the organization, and continue to help those in the community who are in need.”

“Uptown Physicians Group is very excited to welcome these gifted and compassionate providers to our team,” said Dr. David Lee,
