Texas Telehealth: Conditions Best Suited for Virtual Visits

At Prism Health North Texas (PHNTX), we know getting to the clinic is not always easy. Telehealth lets you see a primary care or behavioral health provider by phone, tablet, or computer so you can get care from home, work, or on the go.

Visits That Work Well for Telehealth

Many common health concerns can start with a telehealth visit. In some cases, your provider may still ask you to come in for tests or a hands‑on exam before making final treatment decisions.

Cold, Flu, and COVID‑Like Symptoms

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Mild to moderate fever
  • Body aches and chills
  • Mild nausea or upset stomach

Your visit can start as telehealth, but your provider may recommend an in‑person flu or COVID test before certain prescriptions can be safely given.

Allergies and Sinus Problems

  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Sinus pressure or mild facial pain
  • Itchy or watery eyes
  • Sneezing and post‑nasal drip

If symptoms are severe or not improving, your provider may ask you to come in for a closer exam or imaging.

Skin Concerns

  • Rashes or red patches
  • Acne or bumps
  • Bug bites or stings
  • Mild infections, cuts, or scrapes that are not healing well

If there are signs of a deeper infection, spreading redness, or a painful lump, an in‑person visit may be needed for a full skin exam or treatment.

Medication Refills and Check‑Ins

  • Stable blood pressure medicine
  • Cholesterol medicine
  • Birth control
  • Other long‑term prescriptions when you are doing well

Your provider may still ask for in‑person labs or blood pressure checks from time to time to make sure your treatment stays safe.

Chronic Condition Follow‑Ups

  • Diabetes check‑ins
  • High blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • Asthma or COPD
  • HIV or other long‑term conditions

Telehealth works well for talking about symptoms, numbers from home devices, and treatment goals. Labs, vaccines, and full physical exams may still need in‑person visits on a regular schedule.

Mental Health and Wellness

  • Anxiety and depression follow‑ups
  • Stress and coping support
  • Sleep concerns
  • Support between counseling or psychiatry visits

If there are safety concerns or new serious symptoms, your provider may ask you to come in or direct you to a higher level of care.

Preventive Care Follow‑Ups

  • Reviewing lab or imaging results
  • Talking about nutrition, exercise, or quitting smoking
  • Planning next steps after an annual physical

If new problems are found, your provider may recommend coming in for a focused exam or more testing.

When You Need In‑Person Care

Some symptoms should not be handled by telehealth alone, such as chest pain, trouble breathing, severe belly pain, heavy bleeding, or major injury. If something feels like an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

New PHNTX Patients: Start In-Person, Then Go Virtual

If you are new to PHNTX, your first visit will usually be in person. This helps your provider learn your health history, do needed exams, and plan safe telehealth visits in the future.

We have providers ready to become your primary care provider (PCP), and we often have same‑day or next‑day appointments, depending on availability.

Quick Ways to Get Care at PHNTX

  • New patients: Fill out this online form or call 214-521-5191 to book an in‑person visit with a provider who can become your PCP, often as soon as same‑day or next‑day when available.
  • Current patients: Schedule a telehealth visit in your Patient Portal, especially for follow‑ups, refills, or result reviews.

Telehealth at PHNTX helps you stay connected to primary care that is easy to access and focused on keeping you well.
