Choosing a women’s health provider is about more than finding someone with the right credentials. It’s about finding someone who listens, answers your questions, and helps you feel comfortable at every stage of life.

We recently sat down with Dr. Lori Morales to talk about her approach to patient care, why preventive health matters, and what patients can expect when they visit her at Prism Health North Texas. From first appointments to check-ups and everything in between, here’s what she had to say.

What inspired you to become an OB/GYN?

I’ve always wanted to care for patients through every stage of life, from adolescence and the reproductive years to menopause and beyond. One of the things I enjoy most is building lasting relationships with my patients and supporting them during some of the most meaningful moments in their lives.

Many people feel nervous about seeing a gynecologist. How do you help patients feel comfortable?

Feeling nervous is completely normal, and I never want patients to feel rushed or pressured.

My approach is centered on compassionate, personalized care. I take time to explain what we’re doing and why, answer questions throughout the visit, and make sure patients know what to expect. My goal is for every patient to feel informed, respected, and involved in their care.

What should someone expect during their first appointment?

Your first visit starts with a conversation.

We’ll discuss your medical history, reproductive health, personal goals, and any concerns you may have. We’ll also talk about recommended screenings, vaccinations, or testing based on your age and health needs.

If an exam is necessary, I’ll explain each step beforehand and let you guide the pace. Together, we’ll develop a care plan that makes sense for your health and schedule follow-up visits if needed.

Some conversations, like sexual health or menopause, can feel uncomfortable. How do you approach those topics?

Those conversations are important, and they deserve to happen in a respectful, judgment-free environment.

Whether we’re talking about reproductive goals, sexual health, menopause, or another sensitive topic, I focus on providing personalized guidance and accurate information so patients can make informed decisions with confidence.

Why is preventive care so important?

Preventive care gives us the opportunity to identify concerns early and help patients stay healthy over time.

Annual visits allow us to discuss recommended screenings for cervical, breast, and colon cancer, along with heart health, diabetes, and mental health. They also give patients dedicated time to ask questions about changes they’re experiencing and receive guidance before small concerns become larger ones.

What’s one misconception about women’s health that you wish more people understood?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that treatment is “one size fits all.”

Whether we’re talking about birth control, abnormal bleeding, or hormone replacement therapy, every patient has different needs. My goal is to provide accurate information and personalized counseling so each patient can choose the option that works best for them.

You’ve worked in many different health care settings. How has that shaped the way you care for patients?

Working in a variety of clinical settings, including safety-net systems, has helped me better understand the challenges many patients face outside of the exam room.

Those experiences have strengthened my commitment to providing care that is inclusive, personalized, and accessible. I want every patient to feel like they have a partner in their health care journey.

What are you most passionate about in women’s health?

Preventive care has always been especially important to me because it helps us detect concerns early and supports lifelong health.

I also enjoy educating patients. When people understand their health and their options, they’re better equipped to make decisions that fit their lives and feel empowered throughout their care.

What would you like every patient to know before they schedule an appointment?

I want patients to know that they don’t have to have all the answers before they come in.

Whether you’re visiting for a routine checkup, have questions about birth control or menopause, or simply want to better understand your health, we’re here to listen, answer your questions, and work with you to create a plan that’s right for you.

Everyone deserves care that feels respectful, personalized, and supportive.
