Dr. David Lee Announces Retirement from Uptown Physicians Group

Prism Health North Texas and Uptown Physicians Group announce the retirement of Dr. David Lee, effective January 18, 2024. Dr. Lee led Uptown Physicians Group through its acquisition by Prism Health North Texas in 2019 and the clinic’s subsequent expansion to a new location with added resources to ensure patients’ access to care at an affordable cost.

“It has been my pleasure and privilege to help guide the healthcare needs of North Texans over the last 21+ years,” Dr. Lee said upon the announcement. “I have valued my relationships with my patients over the years more than you can imagine. We have grown together, been ill together, and healed together. Thank you for your loyalty and friendship over the years.”

Dr. Lee completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where he continued to serve as a member of the medical staff. He specializes in general Internal Medicine and HIV Medicine and is credentialed by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist. He was also named a Dallas Voice Readers Voice Award Winner for seven consecutive years between 2013 and 2019.

On January 19, 2024, Dr. Taylor Schmidt will absorb the practice of Dr. Lee. An Oklahoma native, Dr. Schmidt was trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) and completed a fellowship in HIV medicine.

“I am glad to pass my patients to Dr. Schmidt’s capable hands,” Dr. Lee added. “He reminds me a lot of myself when I started practicing back in 2002, with the eagerness to learn the best, most effective ways to treat patients while practicing empathy and compassion.

Patients of Dr. Lee are encouraged to continue treatment with Dr. Schmidt, though they are welcome to see one of the seven other providers on staff at Uptown Physicians Group. Patients will experience a seamless transition between providers managed by the organization.

Upon his retirement, Dr. Lee will pursue his strong calling to help others by sharing the knowledge he has gained through his years of experience practicing in the United States with providers treating underserved patients in countries with limited resources.
